Cutini. Song of the Seasons

Exhibition

01 December 2024 – 31 March 2025

From December 2024 to March 2025, the exhibition halls of Villa Pisani in Stra (VE) will host the first retrospective of the Perugia-based photographer Giorgio Cutini.

The exhibition is intended first and foremost as a moment of reflection for the artist, who was one of the signatories of the “Passaggio di frontiera” Manifesto together with, among others, Enzo Carli, Gianni Berengo Gardin, and Mario Giacomelli. An advocate of photography of rupture, in opposition to photojournalism and the neorealist approach, Cutini violates every aesthetic and technical-operational constraint to open the photographic medium to surprising expressive and foundational possibilities. His is a search for new possibilities of vision, far beyond that imitative photography of reality which the artist tends to read as an exhibition of the absence of things. Conceived as a journey of deeply personal artistic and human introspection, Cutini. Song of the Seasons is also a universal journey of the gaze on the relationship between man and world, from initial restlessness to a quietude that speaks of a possible image, of hope for the contemporary viewer’s gaze.

Cutini’s encounter with Villa Pisani takes place under the sign of Nature and landscape, aspects that characterize an exhibition in which the human figure and its world of things is singularly distant when not entirely absent. An opportunity for visitors to be guided by the artist’s imagination to cast a new gaze upon the natural element that envelops the Villa with its monumental park. With the exhibition Cutini. Song of the Seasons, Villa Pisani thus confirms itself as a venue dedicated to photography and contemporary artistic research.

Cutini. Song of the Seasons is an exhibition curated by Francesco Trentini, art historian and representative of the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Veneto for the protection and enhancement of Villa Pisani in Stra (VE), in close collaboration with the artist.

The exhibition will be accompanied by the catalog Cutini. Song of the Seasons (Macerata, Ephemeria, 2024, 192 pages, b/w photos) with contributions by the artist, Enzo Carli, Gilberto Marconi, Flavia Orsati, and Francesco Trentini.
